CHARACTER:
Name: Jin Shirato.
Age: 17.
Series: Persona 3.
Species: Human.
Gender: Male.
Occupation: Webmaster to "Revenge Request"
Point of canon to be drawn in: After his Death.

Personality:
When he talks, he talks down to you- like he knows better, like he is better. He’s smart-mouthed, arrogant, and a bit of a brat. In fights, he doesn’t care about being fair, or mind egging his opponent on with teasing and insults. He’s ready to go anytime, constantly moving around, tossing his bomb up and down in his hand; he’s in your face when he wants to be. In that way, Jin acts like a childish, bratty teenager- but he can back some of it up with the fact that he really does know what he’s talking about and that he really is that smart. Somehow, however, Jin’s sense of humor is rather sarcastic at best- even with the snarky attitude he doesn’t joke around. Even when he’s teasing or egging someone on, there’s always a seriousness to it which makes his adolescent demeanor almost seem like a pretense.

Jin is only loyal to one man- Takaya Sakaki. One of the other two children who survived the experiments, Takaya was everything Jin wasn’t- charismatic, practical, determined. When Jin felt like there was no point in going on, Takaya showed him a way out, telling Jin not to “let the past control him, and don’t look to the future. Simply live in the moment”. Having no one else, Jin has been devoted to Takaya ever since the three of them escaped (presumably together) and started living for themselves. Jin’s opinion of Takaya is extremely high. He is constantly saying how much he believes in Takaya, and how he would do anything for him. His past, with and without Takaya, is his main vulnerability. Lucky to be alive after the experiments, he considers his Persona a ‘gift’. Jin becomes uncharacteristically self-sacrificing when Takaya, or the destruction of all they hold dear, is involved. Despite the fact he appears very (and justifiably so) bitter about the experiments and his shortened life-span, he believes so strongly in Takaya’s words that he has become used to the idea that his life will end soon.  He even goes as far to say he does not even care about the Kijiro Group anymore, but he only goes about his orders because Takaya holds that much power in Jin's world.

This is perhaps part of the reason he is so animated and headstrong in battle. Although Jin seems like the reckless, fast-acting one- Takaya is far more reckless and fatalistic when they fight, often losing his cool and trying to over-exert himself to the point of death. Jin often has to physically hold Takaya back and remind him that the time and place for this isn’t yet, telling Takaya he is destined for greater. Out of the two, Jin is deep-down, the more level-headed one, and the one who thinks before he acts. He may appear to be reckless and childish, but his harsh life has given him an unconscious sense of visible maturity that he rarely ever shows unless the situation is dire.

 EXTRA:

Abilities:
Jin has the ability to summon a Persona, which is a physical manifestation of your psyche. Due to the nature in which it was awakened, he has to take suppressants to stop it from attacking him and to control it properly- the suppressants however, are slowly killing him.

Jin is considered to be the demolitionist/explosive expert of his group- he makes and uses his own bombs and grenades in battle along with his Persona.

He is also skilled hacker, web-designer, and computer expert, and according to one of the protagonists, is ‘popular on the Internet’. By this one can assume he’s got an above-average grasp of electronics and computers.

Possessions:

Clothes.
Metal briefcase which contains several supplies needed to put his grenades together.
  Laptop.
A less than half filled bottle of pills normally used to suppress his Persona.

History:
Very little is known about Jin’s childhood. A street kid, he was one of many of the experiments Kirijo Group, an organization dedicated to exploring the properties and limitations of creatures called shadows. In need of test subjects, they gathered up hundreds of street children and orphans from around the area and experimented on them mercilessly- performing tests to forcibly awaken their ‘Persona’ powers [explained in the above section]. The only force that could manipulate and do damage to shadows, the Kirijo Group hoped to expand their research and create a team of persona-users who could explore the shadows further. Nearly all of the children died during the experiments- Persona are extremely dangerous if they awaken unnaturally, and the children’s bodies couldn’t take the mental and physical strain.

Only three children survived out of hundreds – Chidori Yoshino, Takaya Sakaki, and Jin Shirato. After the Kirijo Group canceled the experiment, they had nowhere to go. Not much is known about what exactly went on for the ten years between the experiments and when the three children, now teenagers, are once seen again.

Under Takaya’s determination and leadership, they formed the group Strega and became small-time assassins, taking their hits and contracts from a ‘Revenge Site’ which Jin set up on line. Due to their Persona having been forcibly awakened, the three have to take suppressants in order to prevent their powers from going berserk and are in terse contact with one of the former members of the Kirijo Group, who has his own agenda.

When they meet the protagonists, who are Persona-users dedicated to fighting and defeating the shadows, Jin is visibly angered by them and calls them ‘hypocrites’ for not appreciating their power- if they defeat the shadows, the power to use Persona will also disappear. Throughout the game, he and Takaya fight with the protagonists to stop them from defeating the shadows. They eventually lose Chidori when one of the protagonists [Junpei Iori] dies at their hand and she, in love with him, sacrifices herself to bring Junpei back to life.

Upon his revival, Junpei is enraged that she died, and attacks Jin with his Persona- badly injuring Jin, and providing a victory for the protagonists- for now.

After numerous defeats and losing Chidori, Jin and Takaya decide to form a cult with the theme of the nearing apocalypse. With the charismatic Takaya as the ‘messiah’, and Jin handling his press conferences and websites, they start to become a force to be reckoned with again. At this point in the game, the shadows have become an entity named Nyx- the key to the apocalypse, and Jin and Takaya’s only wish is to see the world end before the suppressants kill them first.
